Bathroom Makeover - The Reveal

Wow!  We are finally here!!!  Time for the reveal!  I am so excited to be sharing this with you!

We have been spending the day doing the final touches.  Here's a few of the things we were doing.


Since we had to remove the trimming on the side of the cabinet, we had to chaulk that area.

We replaced the knobs on the linen closet and used the same handles for the new doors on the cabinet.

My daughter, Cassie, bought the picture frame from Ikea and the saying off of etsy.

 So, after all the paint touch ups, chaulking, painting of the cabinet doors, and cleaning the floors one more time, we are finally done!!!

So, before we see the reveal, lets look at a few pictures of what it use to look like one more time...

And now........ the new bathroom!!! Yay!!!

 

    

My husband did a great job on the backsplash.  I love the new faucet and stopper.

 This is actually the toilet brush holder.

 

 We bought an expandable shower curtain rod, which gives you so much more room in the shower, for $20.00 and a memory foam mat.

We added this suction basket in the bath tub for the girls soaps last week.  I wasn't sure if it would really stay on the wall, but it has and it's down low enough for the girls to reach.

 So, there it is!!!  It has come a long way and I am really happy with the results.

Bathroom Makeover Day 13 - The Final Steps

We are still busy taking care of the last few details. 

We had to hang up a shelf. (We decided to use the smaller shelf only)

Robert had to make the second door to match the other one, since we couldn't find one.  Then, he had to sand them down and prime them.  The front of the door had to be sanded slightly round on the edges to match.   This cat is not going to be happy that her space is being covered.  She's gotten quite comfortable in here.

Here's what the inside of cabinet looks like, after Cassie painted it and organized it.  The one on the right has two drawers that pull out.  You would have had to see the inside of it before to really appreciate how it looks now!  It doesn't even look like the same cabinet!

Cassie bought two pictures for the bathroom on sale.  The ends of them were starting to fray.  I had to cut off strings and then I applied fabric stiffener to them.  I applied it to the edges and then wiped it with a small brush to cover all the edges.  It dries clear and will keep them from fraying anymore.  Glue that dries clear would have worked just as well.

Now that doors have dried, it's time to hang them up.  Robert used a level to make sure they were even.  Then he screwed in the hinges.  After trying to put the left door on, he realized the trim on the side of the cabinet was in the way, so he had to take that piece off.

He scored the chaulking first with an xacto knife.  Then, he pried it out.

Doors are now hung and ready to be painted.  We are also going to have to fix that trim area up now too.  We are soooo close now!  Hope to have the reveal in the next few hours!!!

Bathroom Makeover - The Final Day!!!!

So, I'm sure some of you have thought the bathroom would never be done! (So did I).  But, today is the day.  We are working on the doors for the vanity right now and will soon have it together.  I am sooo excited to be able to share this with you.  This bathroom has definitely been thru a makeover!!!

Let's take a journey back to where this all began first.

You can barely see the medicine cabinet above the vanity.  It had a big mirror in the middle and swinging mirrors on each side.  There was two layers of wallpaper and two layers of linoleum.  

 The paint on the doors and trim were all chipping off.   The ceiling was in even worse shape.

 

 The sink and faucet were old and nasty looking.  The toilet had to be flushed several times.  We found mold in several areas during the demolition.  The doors on the cabinet were too short and it was hard to get into it.

This bathroom was a mess!  I can't even believe how bad it looked now.  It has been quite a journey to get it to where it is now. We started off with removing ALL the wallpaper.  We had to take out all the baseboards first.  We also removed the top part of the vanity doors to open them up more.

 Day 2 was removing ALL the linoleum off the floor and Day 3 was getting all the glue off the floor.

Day 4 we began fixing the ceiling and painting the walls.

Once we had most of the old stuff gone, we were able to start on the floors.  So, Day 5 and Day 6 was laying the tile.  On  Day 7 we grouted the tile and the bathroom was beginning to actually take shape.

Day 8  was a big day!  I spent the WHOLE day scraping and sanding the trim and doors.  It was just flaking off.  I didn't think I was ever going to get finished!!!  On Day 9 I had the great job of painting all the trim and doors.  I have to say, it definitely made a difference!

Day 10 was an exciting day!  We splurged and bought a granite top (that we actually got for a good price.

Day 11 we accomplished a lot.  Robert put the backsplash in and I did all the chaulking.  We also hung up things on the linen closet door for storage.  The bathroom is starting to look brand new!
 
Day 12 was getting the backsplash grouted and doing touch ups on paint.


We had been hoping to buy the doors for the vanity from  Habitat for $3.00.  We were only able to find one, so Robert is making the door....

I am waiting to have the reveal, once the doors are painted and on.  I really can't wait to show you!!!

Bathroom Makeover, Day 12

Looks like we are finally getting this bathroom done.  Feels like it has taken a long time.  Today the back splash was grouted.  It was the same procedure as when we did the floor.  Again, we used the premixed grout.  We used  a float to press the grout into the tiles.  Robert used the float to make sure the grout lines were filled in.  To do this, simply move the float across the tiles in a diagonal position. Continue using it across tiles to get most of the grout off.

 In three hours, use a big sponge to remove grout on tiles.  In an hour, you can repeat this step.  

We experimented with the back splash.  We put the grout on top of the tiles and will paint over it.  Will see how this works out.  I love the tiles and am excited how things are moving along.

We also painted the shelves that I bought at thrift stores black.  I bought both of them for $4.00. Can't wait to get them hung up.  I used a Satin black spray paint.  First, you have to sand them down slightly.  Then, use a wet towel to remove dirt.  I went over them a couple of times.  For the bathroom, you should use Satin or Gloss.  I already had the satin, so I used it.  Otherwise, I would have used a semi-gloss.

Only thing left to do now is make the doors for the cabinet, since we removed the smaller ones.  Then, comes the fun part of decorating.  Hopefully, this will all be done soon!

Oh, and we still have the shelf left that I brought home.  This will be another project!!
